Neem (Azadirachta indica juss.) is a wild tree grown Indian sub continent and is revered as a multi purpose plant
Neem tree is widely distributed in all sub tropical parts of India and is generally a wild tree (not planted by man for commercial farming).
The Leaves, Bark, Roots, Flowers, Fruit, Cake and Oil of Neem i.e all parts of the plant have medicinal properties and Ayurveda - the ancient medical science of India ascribes many curative properties by using various parts of Neem. Thus medicinal properties of Neem is well established and hence referred to as “Village Pharmacy”.
Apart from medicinal properties, Neem has also been used for repelling mosquitoes, fleas and other insects in houses and animal sheds. The leaves of Neem are burnt inside a room so that the harmful insects are repelled.
The Neem leaves and fruits are crushed and pounded with water and the decoction is taken and sprayed / applied on plants to drive away the insect pests.
The Neem Oil is used along with some soap like agents for spraying on plants for crop protection.
The Neem Cake (The remaining part of fruit after it is crushed to expel the oil / Whole Neem Fruit Powder) is used as an organic manure for soil application in agricultural fields / orchards as a source of Nitrogen, Phosphorus,
Potassium
&
many
other micro
and
trace
elements. Neem
Cake
is also used as soil
application for
control of many soil
pests like root grubs,
nematodes, fungal
& bacterial
